The Farm

In spring 2007, Dr. Hisham Moharram and other Central Jersey residents came together and invested their money and effort to make this community-supported organic farm a reality.  Currently, there are 25 investors in our farm and they include men and women that are physicians, engineers, information technologists, financial advisers who are well to do, but also school teachers and full-time home-makers on more limited incomes.  Thus, our project is truly a community-supported farming project.

Our farm in New Egypt is 50 acres with two forested areas and a stream that divides the farm into two nearly equal halves.  On the northern half, organically cultivated field crops are grown on nearly 21acres and winter crops will be grown on another 1.5 acres dedicated to our greenhouses (operational Fall 2010).  In the southern half of the farm, 9.5 acres are dedicated to permanent pasture for our sheep and goat while another 5 acres is dedicated to crops.  Our cage-free poultry operation (such as chicken, ducks, guinea hens, turkey, etc.) is scheduled to start in spring 2010.

The southern half of the farm is also where our community activities (such as festivals, sports meets, educational agri-tourism activities and workshops) will be held. There are an additional 4 acres dedicated to picnic, camping, volleyball and group activities for those who register to become farm members and pay the farm services & access fee.
